About Us

Tiong Se Academy, (Abbreviation: TSA; simplified Chinese: 中西学院; traditional Chinese: 中西學院; pinyin: Zhōngxī Xuéyuàn) formerly known as Anglo-Chinese School and Philippine Tiong Se Academy, is a non-profit, non-sectarian private Chinese school located at Sta. Elena Street, Binondo, Manila near 168 Shopping Mall, the Cityplace Square, and Lucky Chinatown Mall. It was established on April 15, 1899 in response to the growing need of education in the post-Spanish era Chinese community. The school turned the first page of formal Chinese education in the Philippines, earning the recognition of being the country’s pioneer and oldest Chinese school.

Institutional Goals

As a Chinese-Filipino school, TSA upholds the Chinese tradition while inculcating Filipino customs and values. As such, TSA

As a Basic Education School, TSA is committed to the holistic development of its students. To prepare them for college and to equip them with the capacity to succeed, TSA

Objectives of the School

As a basic education institution, Tiong Se Academy, Inc. strives to achieve the following:

  1. holistic development of each student in all domains – physical, intellectual, cultural, moral and psycho-social through an integrated balanced curriculum that enables students to achieve standards of learning, competencies, and discipline that will equip them with the skills to responsibly participate in the local, national and global community.
  1. provision for the personal and moral formation of the Tiongseian anchored on the school’s core values which foster a profound love for his/her creator, country and family, a genuine respect for self and others as well as a deep sense of service to the community and its environment.

Promotion and nurture of the students’ unique Chinese-Filipino heritage as demonstrated in the school’s two-pronged curricula which develop the Tiongseian’s understanding, and appreciation of their rich, cultural identity. This unique character of the Tiongseian leads to greater respect for multicultural diversity and solidarity in the transformation of the world.
